Matters of the Heart

Matters of the HeartMatters of the HeartMatters of the Heart

When tea becomes ritual, it takes its place at the heart of our ability to see greatness in small things. Where is beauty found? In great things that, like everything else, are doomed to die, or in small things that aspire to nothing, yet know how to set a jewel of infinity in a single moment?

RITES OF PASSAGE

MILESTONES

I work with you to devise meaningful  ceremonies and rituals to mark important landmarks and life events.

Divorce, new home, new job, becoming a parent or grandparent ... you will know when the threshold and milestones are so big they demand to be recognised.

ADULT THRESHOLDS

Puberty, sweet sixteen, school leaving, or turning 21. All possible times to reflect on leaving childhood behind and stepping into adulthood.

Let's create a ceremony and welcome the gifts of wisdom and learning from your elders, family, and friends.

CONSCIOUS UNCOUPLING

When your marriage or partnership ends, you can gently honour what was and wish each other well into the future.

If you have children, you might want to make new vows to each other. Promising to co-parent with kindness and respect even though your marriage is over.

CELEBRATE TRANSITION

At whatever stage of your journey you are on, you will know when it is time to celebrate stepping into the identity of your true self. Witnessed by many, or just a few of your chosen family.

Let's create ceremony together that may include new clothes, ritual hair-cutting, re-naming , or the relinquishing your dead name.

ELDERHOOD

I celebrated my 60th birthday last year with what I called a "Crone Ceremony". The ceremony we created together was officiated by the celebrant and expressive art therapist, Makgati Mokwena.

I had been thinking about my mortality and how being conscious of death has made me more present in and appreciative of my life. I wanted to mark the transitions I had been undergoing after my bereavement.

The ceremony marked my stepping into elderhood and celebrated conscious and radical ageing,
